The voting methods you can choose

Choice 1: I want to vote by Internet

Option A: Pre-register to Vote Remotely

If you pre-register, you will be able to vote remotely by the Internet from 7.00 am on Thursday 26th April until 10.00 pm on Thursday 3rd May 2007. You can vote from home or any other place that is convenient for you!

Your pre-registration form has been sent to your home address. Please contact the elections Helpline on Swindon (01793) 463543 or e-mail elecreg@swindon.gov.uk if you have not received this form.

Option B: Visit an Early Voting Location

All voters will be able to vote by the Internet in the following libraries between Thursday 26th April and Wednesday 2nd May 2007:

You do not need to pre-register for this option as the voting locations will be supervised. A great option if you wish to early vote by Internet but feel you may need support.

Option C: Go to any Polling Station on Poll Day 3 May

All voters who wish to vote by the Internet will also be able to vote at any one of Swindon’s 64 polling stations on Election Day - Thursday 3rd May from 7.00 am until 10.00 pm. Choose the polling station that is best for you!

Advice on internet security / spoof sites

Voters should make sure that they have logged on to www.swindonelection.com directly. They should not attempt to find the website via a search engine like Google. Voters should either type the address in manually, cut and paste it in or click on the link from www.myelection.co.uk/swindon only.

If a voter can not see their address bar they need to go to View > Toolbars in most browsers and check "Address Bar".

Once voters have confirmed that they are logged on to www.swindonelection.com they can check the digital signature on the voting applet and that the address has changed to 'https://www.live.swindonelection.com' to ensure the ballot and voting site are valid.

Voters should also see a padlock displayed on their browser. They can double-click on this padlock to see the web site’s security certificate.

If you discover that the site is not authentic, please notify the Election Office on 01793 463 543 or Eddie Bush at the Swindon Police Department on 01793 507 865.

The pre-registration process

To vote remotely by the internet or telephone you need to register before hand. This process is simple and easy to do and will only take 2 minutes.

To prevent someone else from using your voting credentials, you must provide two pieces of information that only you know when you register.

  • Your Date of Birth
  • A 6 digit PIN number

You must select a PIN number to use when you vote by telephone or internet. To do this you must fill in the pre-registration form. To help you remember the PIN we suggest you write it down and keep it in a safe place.

Your pre-registration form has been sent to your home address. Please contact the elections Helpline on Swindon (01793) 463543 or email elecreg@swindon.gov.uk if you have not received this form.

The deadline for pre-registration is 18th April 2007. Forms must be received by this date.

To vote remotely by telephone or Internet:

  • You will need both your Date of Birth and your PIN number along with a Ballot Code that we will send you with your Poll Card
  • You can vote any time between 7.00 am on 26th April and 10.00 pm on 3rd May 2007

We will send you a poll card to remind you to vote. This card will also contain your Ballot Code.

Please keep your PIN in a safe place and keep it secret. We will not be able to remind you what your PIN is if you lose it or forget it unless you come to the Election Office with photo ID.

You will still be able to vote electronically at the polling station on Election Day should you lose your password or decide not to pre-register. You will also be able to vote electronically in some libraries between 26th April and 2nd May.
